Project Grove sees you exploring a strangely abandoned world, hoping to find out what is going on with the strange flora that’s been growing in the highlands of Dacrima.
Along with your robot friend L-Pin, you must explore around this beautiful 3D world, solving puzzles and jumping across large gaps along the way. Future technology has gone quite far in gap-crossing tech, though, as you have a glove that allows you to shot orbs out and control your companion. L-Pin can be pushed away and changed into a platform. Having this extra step that you can move anywhere gives you a lot of freedom to explore. And if you wander too far from your friend, you can call L-Pin right back to you to continue the adventure together.
L-Pin is a lovely friend, but they were supplied by a shady corporation that is currently funding your expedition. With that in mind, you can still bond well with the little robot – it’s not their fault that they were created by someone who might not have your best intentions in mind.
The world around you is full of various plants and beautiful crystals. Plants can be used to create potions that will help both you and L-Pin gain new abilities that can change the environment or the ways you interact with the world around you. As you get deeper and deeper into Dacrima, you will find more curious plants and understand the truth behind the flora.
I got to take on a demo of Project Grove at Pocket Gamer Connects London and fell in love with the adorable look of L-Pin. At the time of playing, the game seemed really interesting and the world is very well developed. The UI did need some work, as well as the feedback when moving L-Pin about, but the game itself has a very solid base and a captivating story.
